Gränsfors Bruk - Small Splitting Axe

The Small Splitting Axe can be managed with one hand, making it the finest camping axe available. Forged and ground to a concave thin blade at the bit. This design helps the axe to go fast into the wood and then split efficiently as the thicker part hits and pushes the wood apart. The poll of this axe, is not designed for pounding on a wedge.

'“Gränsfors Bruks Aktiebolag is currently experiencing a shortage in axes, hatchets and accessories driven by an unusually high global demand on one side and constraints in the supply chain on the other. The imbalance in demand and delivery capacity is likely to continue for the foreseeable future.

The increased demand is not isolated to our industry, and we are experiencing shortages on most of our raw materials. Steel supply is very constrained now and Gränsfors is working closely with our suppliers to secure deliveries of key materials. We have increased our raw material buffers to counter the longer lead times, however on some specifications the lead times are long and uncertain beyond what can be managed with increased buffers alone. Excellent splitter that is easy to handle At the time I bought this, I already had several GB axes, including the Scandanavian Forest Axe, the Small Forest Axe, and the big splitting maul. In addition, I had several splitting spikes or wedges and large and small sledgehammers. I bought this small splitting axe out of curiousity, and because I like buying GB axes...I ended up using this more than the big splitting maul. I would use the sledgehammer + wedge to split a round, and then use this small splitting axe to split the wood into smaller pieces. What I quickly grew to like about this axe is that a) it splits well, as I expected, and b) it's smaller size and lower weight made it more suitable for dealing with smaller pieces of wood that the big splitting maul would have been. I was splitting red oak and ash and this axe made short work of both. Like all the Gransfors Bruk axes I own, it's a pleasure to use and very well made. Would definitely buy this again.
